Spam - Definition

In IT, spam refers to unwanted and often mass-distributed digital messages. These are distributed via various communication channels such as emails, instant messaging, social media or online comment areas.

As a rule, these messages are sent to a large number of recipients without their express consent or interest and often have commercial, fraudulent or disruptive intentions. These include, for example, phishing attempts, unsolicited information, commercial advertising or fraudulent offers.

Spam is a widespread problem in digital communication and requires special defense mechanisms, such as spam filters, to filter out unwanted messages: Spam filters to block the unwanted messages.
