Module - Definition

A module, also known as a network module/network card, is an integrated network interface that establishes a connection between several devices in a local network (LAN).

There are different types of network modules, e.g: Software modules and hardware modules. Software modules are program code units that provide special functions and services. These appear in the form of libraries, classes or independent applications. Hardware modules refer to the physical components that are integrated into larger hardware systems. They can be installed on a mainboard or in computers and have one or more slots to which a network cable is connected. This enables data exchange and communication between devices. The transmission speed can vary from 1 Mbit/s to 10 Mbit/s and 100 Mbit/s to 1000 Mbit/s.

Modules contribute to the development, scalability and maintenance of software and hardware as they can be used efficiently and flexibly.
