Switching Modules - Definition

The term switching module refers to special hardware components that are used in network devices such as switches or routers to support switching and routing functions.

Switching modules enable connectivity and communication in complex networks, as they determine the correct route for data packets within a network and forward them efficiently to their destination. These data packets are processed on the basis of MAC addresses or IP addresses.

Switching modules therefore enable network administrators to flexibly scale the network infrastructure and adapt it to specific requirements. This means that the entire switch does not have to be replaced. Switching modules play an important role as they efficiently forward data packets and enable routing.
