Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) - Definition

ISDN stands for “Integrated Services Digital Network” and describes a technology in the IT world that makes it possible to integrate various services such as voice and data communication via digital telephone lines.

It is an international standard for the transmission of digital signals via the telephone network. ISDN offers a wide range of services, including telephony, data transmission, fax and other communication services. In contrast to conventional analog telephone lines, ISDN uses digital signals, resulting in improved transmission quality and more efficient use of available bandwidth.

ISDN has been superseded by more modern broadband technologies in recent years, but it has played an important role in providing reliable and efficient communication services in the past. ISDN is increasingly being replaced by DSL and fiber optics.
