Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) - Definition

GPU stands for “Graphics Processing Unit” and is a graphics processor or computer chip that primarily calculates the image reproduction on screens or displays in 2D and 3D graphics.

It is designed to process large amounts of data in parallel and perform complex calculations for the display of graphics and videos. This takes place particularly quickly in the form of mathematical calculations and consumes a lot of power due to its performance. A GPU optimizes the processes of PCs, games consoles or smartphones and is located either on an expansion card (graphics card) or on the main board of a PC or games console.

The GPU is used in many areas where it has greatly improved the efficiency and performance of computer graphics, as it handles graphical tasks and computationally intensive calculations.
