A transceiver is an electronic device or component that provides transmitting and receiving functions for the transmission of information or data over networks or communication channels.
Transceivers are used in networks, wireless communication applications and telecommunication systems. Transceivers enable the bidirectional transmission of data by converting information from a digital format into an analog signal (transmit function) and converting received analog signals back into digital data (receive function). There are different types of transceivers for different transmission media, e.g: Ethernet transceivers for wired networks, WLAN transceivers for wireless communication and optical transceivers for fiber optic communication.
Transceivers are important components in the IT infrastructure because they enable efficient and reliable data communication across different types of networks.
