Spyware - Definition

Spyware refers to malicious software that penetrates computer systems without permission, records activities and forwards this information to unauthorized parties. It often acts secretly and sends data to the software manufacturer or third parties, sometimes even for advertising purposes.

Spyware can affect various devices such as PCs, servers, laptops, smartphones and tablets. Unlike viruses, spyware does not usually try to spread on its own. Anti-spyware programs often mark detected components as “potentially unwanted software”. The software can perform a variety of actions, from recording keystrokes to remotely controlling devices. Its use can pose both personal and business security risks, including password theft and data leakage.

Protection against spyware requires regular checks, caution when dealing with attachments and downloads, avoiding dubious links and surfing trusted websites.
