Overheating - Definition

Overheating in IT occurs when electronic devices, such as laptops, servers or computers, reach undesirably high operating temperatures.

Causes include errors in ventilation, improper placement of computer housings and intensive use. Risks include performance problems, data loss and hardware damage. Preventive measures include regular cleaning of the device, monitoring temperatures and avoiding overclocking, adequate ventilation and the use of cooling pads. Other tips include avoiding direct sunlight on devices, keeping the inside of the PC dust-free and regularly monitoring the temperatures of the CPU, graphics card, hard disk and SSD.

Backup solutions can be used to protect against data loss due to overheating. These should meet the specific needs of the company and help to protect valuable data from potential difficulties.
