Malware - Definition

The word malware is derived from “malicious software” and refers to invasive malware designed to infect, damage or disrupt computer systems. It can also gain unauthorized access.

There are many variants, in which case it is designed to compromise the security and privacy of computers. Malware therefore includes Trojans, viruses, worms, adware and spyware. However, malware is not always a virus, which is only one form of malware. It can also be described as malicious code. Malware can spread on all operating systems and IT systems, e.g: Clients, mobile devices, servers or routers. This often happens via email attachments, data carriers or manipulated websites. The device is infected after downloading or installing malware, often by clicking on an infected link or visiting an infected website. Mobile devices can be infected via SMS.

Malware is a significant threat to the security and integrity of computer systems and data. Security measures, such as the use of firewalls, anti-virus software or regular software updates, can protect against malware.
