Hosting - Definition

Hosting is the provision of servers and resources to make websites or applications accessible via the Internet. A hosting service makes it possible to place websites on servers in data centers.

Hosting also refers to the provision of storage space and computing power for your own website. The provider's central server is maintained and updated to ensure continuous availability. Hosting services fall under collective names such as co-location services, web hosting and managed hosting. Hosts offer various tariffs, from simple self-service services to comprehensive high-availability solutions. There are different types of hosting, including (shared) web hosting, cloud hosting, server hosting and VPS hosting.

Each type has specific advantages and disadvantages in terms of storage space, performance and costs. The selection of a hosting package should take into account aspects such as sufficient storage space, programming options, security and the use of CMS such as WordPress.
