Fast Ethernet Switch - Definition

Fast Ethernet switch is a network switch that uses Fast Ethernet technology to transmit data in a local area network (LAN). Fast Ethernet is the advanced version of Ethernet and benefits from a higher speed.

Performance has been improved from 10 megabits per second (10 Mbps) to 100 megabits per second (100 Mbps). This is how Fast Ethernet switches work at 100 Mbit/s. Fast Ethernet switches are equipped with RJ45 ports and work with Cat 6 cable. However, there are also Fast Ethernet switches that have high-speed uplink ports that support speeds of 1 gigabit per second (1000 Mbit/s) or more.

Fast Ethernet switches are a cost-effective solution for networks with limited bandwidth requirements.
