Have you ever wondered what happens when network technology reaches the end of its lifecycle? At Juniper Networks, this is an important point - because even leading products go through their End of Life (EOL) and End of Service (EOS) phases.
But don't worry: in this article we explain what this means for you and how you can react in good time without losing touch.
Juniper Networks, founded in 1996 by Pradeep Sindhu, Dennis Ferguson and Bjorn Liencres, is a relatively young but leading provider of networking equipment. With the launch of its first product, the M40 router, in 1998 and a rapid IPO in 1999, the company quickly established itself. Just four years after its foundation, Juniper achieved a market share of 33.5% and positioned itself as the second largest supplier of network equipment worldwide.
Juniper offers a wide range of network devices, including switches, routers, firewalls, transceivers and wireless access points. The company has become particularly important in the high-performance router segment, taking market share from Cisco. Juniper aims to deliver more efficient results to network teams and optimize the user experience. A particular focus is on innovative software such as Junos and Juniper Mist AI.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) plans to acquire Juniper for 14 billion US dollars, with closing in 2024 or early 2025. More information about this merger can be found in our blog post “HPE acquires Juniper for 14 billion US dollars”.
The term “End of Life” describes the status of products when their series production is discontinued and they are no longer available. This applies to both hardware and software. Manufacturers announce EOL phases in advance to make it easier for users to transition to newer solutions, while support is usually still offered. Products that have reached EOL will no longer receive updates or security enhancements, which can lead to potential security risks. Users should therefore plan to upgrade or replace the product in good time to ensure uninterrupted use.
The term “End of Service” refers to the point at which the manufacturer no longer provides technical support for a product, including updates and bug fixes. Although the devices can still be used, security risks arise, so the user is responsible for maintenance and security. In this context, the sale of the product (EOL) is discontinued first and then maintenance is terminated.
You can find more information about the difference between EOL and EOS in our blog post “EOL vs. EOS: What is the difference and why is it important?”.
Below you will find a selection of Juniper products from various series, including switches, routers and firewalls, which are in EOL status. In this overview you can see all Juniper products affected by EOL/EOS.
We also show you the corresponding successor models. These devices can still be used. However, you will notice that some successor models are also in EOL status. You should therefore be careful and upgrade to newer models in good time to ensure the security of your infrastructure. You can find more information on upgrading your infrastructure in our blog post “Build IT infrastructure and benefit from improved processes”.
In the area of switches, several EX series products are in EOL and EOS. In this overview you can see all EX switches from Juniper affected by EOL/EOS.
In the area of routers, several MX series products are in EOL and EOS. In this overview you can see all MX routers from Juniper affected by EOL/EOS.
In the area of firewalls, several products from the SRX and SSG series are in EOL and EOS. There is no successor model in the SSG series, as Juniper has discontinued the series. Instead, a switch to the SRX series is recommended, which offers similar functions but improved security and performance features. In this overview you can see all SRX firewalls from Juniper affected by EOL/EOS.

The digital world and the associated threats to companies are constantly evolving. While traditional firewalls have long been regarded as a basic protective measure, their functionality is often no longer sufficient to withstand complex cyberattacks. This is where next-generation firewalls (NGFW) come into play, which go far beyond conventional solutions.
But what exactly is behind this technology and what advantages does it offer over conventional firewalls? Find out in this blog post.
A next-generation firewall (NGFW) - often referred to as a next-gen firewall - is an advanced security solution that goes beyond the functions of traditional firewalls. It monitors and controls data traffic between networks on the basis of defined guidelines and analyzes various characteristics of the data traffic. This advanced analysis of network traffic is deeper and more accurate than traditional firewalls, enabling NGFWs to better detect and defend against attacks.
They also offer additional security functions such as intrusion prevention systems (IPS), advanced application controls and protection mechanisms against malware. They therefore protect networks not only against conventional threats, but also against complex cyber attacks. Thanks to their powerful functions, they make a decisive contribution to modern IT security architecture. You can find more information on IT security in our specialist knowledge “IT security in companies: Importance and solutions”.
3 main types of next-generation firewalls
Modern NGFWs offer comprehensive security functions that go beyond the basic anti-virus and VPN functions and packet filters.

Conventional firewalls and NGFWs are designed to protect an organization's networks and data. However, NGFWs have a variety of features that traditional firewalls do not have, not all of which are listed in this table.
Aspects | Conventional firewall | Next-generation firewall |
---|---|---|
Protection | Restricted | Extended |
Service | Simple | Comprehensive |
Inquiry | Status independent | Status dependent |
Layers in the OSI model | Layer 2 and 4 | Layer 2 to 7 |
Antivirus and anti-malware | Yes | Yes |
VPN | Yes | Yes |
Application recognition | No | Yes |
Deep-Packet-Inspection | No | Yes |
Intrusion Prevention | No | Yes |
SSL/TLS decryption | No | Yes |
SonicWall NGFWs provide strong threat protection capabilities with simplified management. The TZ series offers enterprise-grade security solutions for small and medium-sized businesses and their branch offices. In today's increasingly digitalized world, high-performance computing solutions play a central role. Processing huge amounts of data in real time, handling complex calculations and developing innovative technologies would be almost inconceivable without these systems. High Performance Computing (HPC) opens up new possibilities by going far beyond the limits of conventional computers.
In this blog post, we take a look at the world of HPC and explore the benefits and applications of this ground-breaking technology.
HPC stands for “High Performance Computing” and is also known as supercomputing. This technology uses a combined computing power that far exceeds the capacities of conventional computers. Large amounts of data can be processed very quickly by networking several computers and storage devices.
With the increasing amount of data generated by technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and 3D imaging, the ability to process data in real time is becoming increasingly important. HPC solves these complex problems in real time. Companies are increasingly moving their HPC applications to the cloud, which improves the efficiency of product development and research, for example, it reduces the creation of prototypes.
HPC systems, which use clusters of powerful processors, are faster than normal desktop or server systems. They solve complex problems on a multidimensional level and at very high speeds - also known as big data. Supercomputers used to dominate in this area, but they are now being replaced by cloud-based HPC services.
HPC has been crucial to research and innovation for decades. It enables engineers and scientists to solve complex problems faster and more cost-effectively than with conventional computers. HPC also generates significant discoveries and technological advances that improve the quality of life worldwide.
HPC enables important advances such as DNA sequencing, automated stock trading or even AI applications for self-driving cars. It is therefore a technology of the future that can create competitive advantages. The BMBF also highlights the future importance of HPC. Further information can be found on the BMBF website (only in german).
Advantages of HPC:
How does HPC work?
HPC is used when tasks are too large for a single computer. HPC clusters - groups of networked computers - work together to process large amounts of data quickly. They are an amalgamation of several networked high-speed servers with a central scheduler; more precisely, an HPC cluster comprises 100,000 or more nodes. They are also connected to the data storage, which makes it easier to capture the output. Such clusters are often created or removed automatically in the cloud to reduce costs.
Types of workloads:
Main components of HPC
These components must work well together to optimize performance. If there is a delay in one component, the overall performance can be affected.
Scaling and performance
HPC systems distribute calculations across many resources, which increases performance. A single server can benefit from parallel processing. HPC clusters, on the other hand, which use thousands of nodes, offer the greatest performance gains. In HPC clusters, all components such as networks, storage and memory are optimized for high speed. Low latency components are also important to maximize overall performance.
Some areas of application:
HPC can be combined with artificial intelligence, combining HPC with machine learning to improve advances in these application areas.
We offer a range of HPC devices, including the Cisco Nexus switches and the Cisco UCSC-GPU-VGXK2 module.
High Performance Computing has established itself as an indispensable technology that enables significant progress in numerous areas. From precise data processing to the development of innovative solutions, HPC ensures that complex tasks are solved efficiently.
As this technology continues to evolve, new horizons are opening up that could further transform the way we approach challenges. The integration of HPC into the cloud and the increasing connection with artificial intelligence offer exciting prospects for the future, which may have an even more far-reaching impact on science, business and society.

We are not only an online store for IT hardware and network technology, but also a point of contact for your questions. You will find firewalls, wireless access points and switches from well-known brands such as Cisco, Fortinet, SonicWall and HPE Aruba.
The lifespan of IT hardware is limited, not only by defects, but also by decisions made by manufacturers. They determine how long their customers can use devices before they discontinue support and introduce new models. There can be several reasons for this. On the one hand, this happens due to new market requirements and, on the other, due to the introduction of innovative technologies. This in turn stimulates the sale of new devices.
Terms such as EOL (End of Life) and EOS (End of Service) are used in this context. However, many users do not understand what exactly is meant by these terms. In this blog post, we explain what these terms mean.
EOL stands for “End-of-Life” and is the last phase in the life cycle of a product. This can affect electronic products, components and software that are no longer produced by the manufacturer. They are therefore no longer available, but can still be used without any problems. The support offer remains in place. In electromechanics, EOL describes the phase from the transition from series production to discontinuation, in which only small quantities of spare parts are produced. As series and supplier companies are often no longer able to produce these quantities cost-effectively, an external service provider often takes over production.
IT experts look for signs such as slow performance and frequent crashes in PCs, servers and other hardware that indicate the end of the life cycle. Replacement decisions are based on defined performance and warranty criteria.
Software applications that no longer work effectively or are too slow also need to be replaced. Compatibility issues with newer hardware or operating systems often require a new version or an alternative software solution. Reaching the expiry date of an application without further updates or support from the provider can also have security risks.
EOS stands for “End-of-Service”, “End-of-Support” or “End-of-Sale”. The latter is the discontinuation of a product, similar to EOL. From this point on, the product is no longer offered by authorized dealers or directly by the manufacturer. It is very important to recognize the difference between all these terms in order to avoid misunderstandings.
“End-of-service” or ‘end-of-support’ means the discontinuation of support for a product or service by the manufacturer. This no longer includes updates, maintenance or technical support. Although use is still possible, there are security risks. Users are therefore responsible for their own maintenance and security.
EOS announcements will provide information on the timeline for discontinuation of support, possible migration paths or upgrade options, and recommendations for switching to alternative solutions. It is advisable for companies and individuals affected by EOS to review their current use of the product, assess the impact of discontinued support and develop measures to minimize business disruption and mitigate potential risks.
End of life and end of support are closely linked in the lifecycles of hardware and software. EOL often marks the transition to the next phase, the EOS. Manufacturers typically specify a date from which support for a system or device will cease. In doing so, they often try to persuade users to upgrade to newer versions of older systems, which can sometimes be more expensive. These practices have long been established in the industry by hardware and software vendors.

At IT-Planet, we offer customized solutions for these specific requirements. Our range includes a wide selection of devices that have reached end of life (EOL) or end of support (EOS). This often allows you to replace your existing hardware and network technology without having to make extensive adjustments to the system. If you have any questions, our team of experts will help you. You can expand your IT infrastructure with us. You can find more information on infrastructure in our blog post “Build IT infrastructure and benefit from improved processes”.
Understanding EOL and EOS is very important as these terms characterize the lifecycle of IT hardware and software. EOL marks the end of a product's availability and development. EOS, on the other hand, marks the point at which support is discontinued. You can find out more about EOL and EOS in our online store.
Companies should monitor both phases and switch to new solutions in good time. At IT-Planet, you will find professional advice and tailor-made solutions to help you with your challenges.
In our online store, you will not only find EOS and EOL devices, but also many products such as switches, routers, UPS systems and wireless access points from well-known brands such as Cisco, Fortinet, SonicWall and Eaton.

On Sunday, our colleague made his way to Berlin. Thanks to the generous support of Eaton, accommodation was no problem - the company had booked a first-class hotel for him. Later on, we went to the stadium, where Steven was warmly welcomed and enjoyed the anticipation of the big game together with other guests.
The VIP ticket not only offered very good seats in the stadium, but also a comprehensive catering service with starters, main courses and a wide selection of drinks. Eaton had thought of everything to make this experience as pleasant as possible.
Then the time had finally come - the European Championship final began. It was a thrilling game that remained exciting until the very last minute. This experience would not have been possible without the invitation and support of Eaton. A big thank you to Eaton for this incredible opportunity and the excellent organization. The atmosphere, the game and the perfect organization made this day very special.
