Network Attached Storages (NAS) - Definition

NAS stands for “Network-Attached Storages” and describes a system or technology that serves as a central storage solution in local networks and has a high capacity. The system enables network users and customers to store or retrieve data at a central location.

The advantages of a NAS system are low power consumption, permanent data accessibility (even by multiple users), effective data backup and fast transfer speeds. NAS systems can be available in various configurations, equipped with drives or without hard disks. They also have one or two USB ports, which makes it possible to connect external storage drives to the network.

NAS are used in small businesses and home networks to enable centralized data management and data sharing. They are a cost-effective way of sharing and storing data without having to set up complex server infrastructures.
