Provider - Definition

A provider is a service provider that provides IT services for companies and end users, including cloud computing, hosting and network services.

Examples include Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. The term provider also refers to utilities such as internet and mobile providers that provide additional services and hardware. Internet providers such as Telekom offer additional services in addition to connections. Mobile network providers such as Vodafone provide the infrastructure for mobile networks. On the internet, providers offer services such as hosting, domain registration and cloud storage, with tasks such as ensuring availability and performance. Using a provider brings advantages such as expertise and reliability, but also potential disadvantages such as loss of control and security concerns.

When choosing a provider, it is important to consider different options and follow best practice.
