Platform as a Service (PaaS) - Definition

PaaS, short for “Platform as a Service”, frees you from infrastructure management and allows you to focus on application development for greater efficiency. It also provides resources for cloud applications and eliminates local infrastructure concerns.

PaaS solutions should provide programmable components for AI, chatbots, blockchain and IoT. The functionality includes cloud infrastructure, application software and a GUI (graphical user interface). Developers work independently of location, applications are created directly in the PaaS. PaaS providers manage most cloud services and the company maintains applications and data. PaaS simplifies API development, IoT, agile development, cloud migration and hybrid cloud.

Benefits include shorter development times, cost-efficient access to resources, freedom to experiment, easy scalability and flexibility. Overall, PaaS reduces costs and simplifies application management.
