IT Security - Definition

IT security is used to protect computer systems, data, networks and information from theft, unauthorized access and threats. The aim is to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of digital resources. The term includes not only IT security in general, but also cyber security and internet security.

This includes the security of information processing and the communication of computers, networks, cloud systems, individual files or even entire data centers. Cyber security, on the other hand, is concerned with the entire cyberspace and includes security solutions designed to defend the infrastructure against cyber attacks.

However, IT security and cyber security are closely linked, as they encompass all organizational and technical measures to protect systems from threats such as cyber attacks. Protection includes rights management, firewalls, access controls and virus scanners. Internet security specifically includes protection against threats from the internet.

IT security is of crucial importance nowadays, as many companies, organizations and individuals are affected by cyber attacks. The implementation of security measures is therefore crucial for the confidentiality and integrity of data and the safeguarding of IT systems.
