Input devices are indispensable for feeding information to the computer and enable interaction with various forms of data. The basic function of an input device is to convert information into a form that the computer can understand. Examples:

  • Keyboard: For text, numbers and program control.
  • Microphone: Records sound as electrical signals.
  • Scanner: Captures data from originals and converts them into digital images.
  • Webcam: Digital video camera for video telephony and live broadcasts.
  • Touchscreen: Screen with touchpad for finger control.
  • Graphics tablet: Natural input of drawings and texts.
  • Pointing devices: Control graphical user interfaces, e.g. mouse and trackball.

Modern technologies such as touchscreens and voice recognition systems offer intuitive interaction options. The selection depends on specific requirements and the intended use.
