Hub - Definition

A network hub is also known as a network component, which sends data to the computers or devices to which it is connected. A hub can connect several computers or end devices in a network, enabling them to communicate with each other.

Network hubs work on layer 1 of the OSI layer model. The hub distributes the received data frames to all its ports, but there is no sorting of this data and its addresses.

As the hub operates at a speed of 10 or 100 megabits per second, it has lost its importance in today's modern networks. It has been replaced by more intelligent switches that work on layer 2 of the OSI layer model.
