High Performance Computing (HPC) - Definition

HPC stands for “High-Perfomance Computing” and refers to a technology that handles complex computing tasks with superior performance compared to conventional computers. It is a class of applications that solve computationally intensive tasks, also known as supercomputing.

HPC enables the rapid processing of large amounts of data through the use of networked computers and storage devices. Companies are increasingly moving HPC workloads to the cloud, which improves the cost-effectiveness of product development and research. HPC systems use high-performance processors and advanced components to achieve speeds far above those of conventional hardware. The goals of high performance computing include solving complex problems and quickly performing sophisticated calculations in areas such as research, science, engineering, artificial intelligence and business intelligence. HPC is based on massively parallel computing, in which tasks are executed simultaneously on different servers or processors. HPC clusters, consisting of networked servers, are a common implementation of parallel computing.
