Content Management System (CMS) - Definition

CMS stands for “content management system” and includes software that creates, edits, organizes, displays and manages digital content in the form of text, images, video and other content. The user does not need to have extensive technical knowledge or programming skills. This content is used as content in apps, websites and other forms of media.

The aim of the software is to facilitate the management of content and to make websites and digital platforms efficient and up-to-date.

The system is used by many user groups. Authors use CMS to manage and publish content. The audience of these media uses CMS to consume this content. Developers also use the system, as they customize the system's functions for the intended purpose. The companies then ensure smooth and secure usability for all users. However, CMS attach particular importance to media-neutral data storage.
