A community cloud is a cloud infrastructure that is shared by several organisations with similar requirements for security, data protection, or compliance. Typical users include companies within the same industry, government authorities, or research institutions.
Unlike a public cloud, access to a community cloud is restricted to a defined group of users. This provides a higher level of security while also facilitating collaboration and data sharing between the participating organisations.
The infrastructure can either be operated by the participating organisations themselves or hosted by an external cloud provider. By sharing resources, costs can be reduced while still meeting specific security and compliance requirements.
